Long Haul Ends With $200,000 Prize Claim

January 13, 2006--Picking his Powerball numbers randomly paid off big for Steven Haack of Lincoln. Haack, a truck driver for Tasty-Toppings Dorothy Lynch Dressing, stopped at HY-VEE Gas, 3012 23rd Street, in Columbus on the evening of January 6 and purchased a ticket for the Saturday, January 7 drawing.

Haack and his wife, Henrietta, checked the ticket at a Russ's IGA in Lincoln. After the clerk told them that the ticket was a winner (matching the five white ball numbers drawn), Haack said they were both excited and he had to grab the ticket away from his wife as she was dancing in the store and waving the ticket around.

The winning white ball numbers from the January 7 drawing were: 2, 16, 21, 32, 43. The powerball number was 6; Haack's powerball number selection was 33.

As they claimed their prize on Friday, January 13, Haack told Nebraska Lottery officials that he got up at 3 a.m. and drove back to Lincoln from Oklahoma in order to make the claim.

A Marine Corps veteran, Haack said the prize money will do a lot for his family. The majority of it will go for their retirement, and he added that some will be used for his hobby, antique tractors, and fixing up his car. The couple has two daughters and five grandchildren.

The odds of winning $200,000 playing Powerball are 1 in 3,563,608. The overall odds of winning something in the game are 1 in 36.60.
