Ord Woman Wins $1 Million Playing Powerball
Roberta Trumbo of Ord won $1 million playing Powerball from the Nebraska Lottery.
Trumbo purchased her winning ticket at Trotter’s Whoa & Go Express IV at 1111 S 2nd St. in Ord. Trumbo’s ticket contained five plays for the April 29 drawing, one of which matched five out of five white balls (03, 19, 35, 51, 67) but not the Powerball (15) for a $1 million win.
The April 29 drawing had an astounding 62 $1 million winners across 17 different states, one of which was purchased by Trumbo. An additional 27 $2 million winning tickets were produced in 12 different states and two winners from Indiana and Kanas will split the $143.4 million jackpot. The winner of another $1 million prize purchased their ticket in Omaha but have not yet claimed their prize.
Powerball officials believe the unusually high number of winners may be due to players picking their numbers in a similar way. The winning numbers drawn on April 29 matched the same pattern as a vertical column of numbers on play slips in multiple states.
Trumbo said she’s been playing the same set of numbers for at least the past two years and originally came from a quick pick ticket and always buys her tickets for multiple drawings.
She found out she’d won on the evening of April 30 and said it left her shocked.
“I was kind of shaky getting home,” she said. “I still can’t quite believe it.”
Powerball is a multi-state jackpot game currently offered by 45 state lotteries, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning $1 million playing Powerball are 1 in 11,688,053.52 while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9.
