Omaha Couple Wins $260,000 Playing Nebraska Pick 5

Kim and James Edwards

James and Kim Edwards of Omaha won $260,000 playing Nebraska Pick 5 from the Nebraska Lottery.

James purchased the winning ticket at Family Fare 784 at 14444 W Center Rd. in Omaha. The ticket contained five quick pick plays for the July 14 drawing, one of which matched that night’s winning numbers 01, 14, 23, 39 and 40.

The Edwards’ play Pick 5 every day, usually five plays at a time, a strategy that’s paid off before.

In September of 2022, the couple claimed a $160,000 Pick 5 jackpot.

“The first time I won, the scanner was quiet, no noise, it just said, ‘Take to cashier,’” James said. “I scanned this one and I looked at Kim and I whispered, ‘It’s doing the same thing again.’”

Before heading to Lincoln, James called his boss and Kim called her parents to tell them they were heading to Lincoln. Both jokingly asked the same question, “Did you win the lottery again?”

The Edwards’ said they’re planning to use their winnings to pay off their house.

“I never thought in a million years,” James said.

“That we would win, let alone twice,” Kim added. “We are very thankful and very blessed.”

Nebraska Pick 5 is Nebraska’s unique Lottery game: all the proceeds from Nebraska Pick 5 stay in Nebraska, and all the winning tickets are sold in Nebraska at Nebraska Lottery Lotto game retailers. The odds of winning the Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot, which starts at $50,000 and grows by $10,000 each drawing that is not won, are 1 in 658,008 while the overall odds of winning a prize in the game, which has drawings seven nights a week, are 1 in 9.2.
