Group of 27 Coworkers Split $170,000 Nebraska Pick 5 Jackpot

Paul Bauer

Paul Bauer of Fremont claimed a $170,000 Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot from the Nebraska Lottery after he and 26 of his coworkers picked the winning numbers in an office lottery pool.

Bauer purchased the group’s tickets at Expressway Foodmart at 1800 E Military Ave. in Fremont. The ticket contained one play for the May 29 drawing which matched that night’s winning numbers 02, 06, 20, 26 and 27.

Bauer said that he and his coworkers at Valmont Industries in Fremont have been going in together on Pick 5 tickets for about 20 years now. He’s the one who buys the tickets and he was a little late getting the good news.

“I usually send out an email with the numbers, but I forgot to do it that day,” he said. “When I did get it out, everyone was yelling, ‘No way!’”

After taxes, each of the 27 coworkers will walk away with just under $4,500. Bauer said it might not be a life-changing amount, but the money will make things a little better for everyone.

“We’re lucky we hit the big one,” he said.
