Happy Holidays Cash Giveaway Winners Decided

January 15, 2005--Through a series of elimination rounds, five semi-finalists in the Happy Holidays Cash Giveaway made their way Saturday toward cash prizes ranging from $250 to $10,000.

The promotion's Grand Prize game show was held at the Hastings Home Show at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Hastings.

In the first elimination round, contestants unwrapped packages to find colored bells. Four received green bells and continued to the next round. Thomas Shires of Lincoln found a red bell and won $250.

In the second elimination round, the remaining four contestants scratched prize areas on giant snowflakes. Three found "continue on", and Marvin Leapaldt of Lincoln won $500.

In the third round, the remaining three contestants opened gift envelopes. Paula Bishop of Omaha won $750.

The two remaining contestants, Willis Dawkins of Grand Island and Nancy Johnson of Lincoln (represented by a proxy) took turns drawing keys and attempted to unlock a clear cube containing $10,000 in simulated prize money.

On the second pair of keys, the proxy unlocked the prize box, meaning that the $10,000 top prize went to Nancy Johnson of Lincoln.

Willis Dawkins of Grand Island won the seocnd prize of $1,000.

More than 25,000 entries were received during the contest, and semi-finalists were chosen through five preliminary drawings; December 14, 21, and 28, and January 4 and 11.

Entering the contest required submitting $10 worth of non-winning holiday Scratch tickets including $1 Holiday Dough, $2 Crazy Kringle Cash, $3 The Name Game Crossword (Santa’s List), and $5 Winter Cash.

The contestants were selected in the following order:
January 11, Nancy Johnson, Lincoln, from among an estimated 6,116 entries received
January 4, Willis Dawkins, Grand Island, from among an estimated 4,776 entries
December 28, Paula Bishop, Omaha, from among an estimated 4,044 entries
December 21, Thomas Shires, Lincoln, from among an estimated 4,061 entries
December 14, Marvin Leapaldt, Lincoln, from among an estimated 6,228 entries
