Council Bluffs Woman Wins $100,000 Playing Gem 7s

Kate Schondelmeyer of Council Bluffs, Iowa won $100,000 playing the Gem 7s Scratch game from the Nebraska Lottery.

Schondelmeyer purchased her winning ticket at Casey’s #6138 at 13736 Q St. in Omaha.

She’d stopped for gas before going to the Diana Ross concert in Omaha that night and decided to pick up a few Scratch tickets. Schondelmeyer arrived at the show, put the tickets in her glove box and forgot all about them until she was heading home.

She scratched off all of the numbers on the ticket until she reached the last one. She said she was pretty sure she wasn’t going to win, but the second she saw the prize she started yelling.

Schondelmeyer said she’s going to buy a new car and pay off a few bills.

“I’m going to spoil my kids, too,” she said. “Of course I am.”

A $10 Scratch game, Gem 7s offers players a chance to win prizes from a $10 free ticket to $100,000. The chances of winning $100,000 are one in 100,000, while the odds of winning any prize are one in 3.46.
