Ithaca Woman Wins $45,000 Playing Nebraska Pick 5

Justine Ewan

Justine Ewan of Ithaca won $45,000 playing Nebraska Pick 5 from the Nebraska Lottery.

Ewan purchased her ticket at Casey’s General Store #2090 at 821 S Broad St. in Fremont. The ticket contained a single quick pick play for the March 16 drawing and matched the winning numbers 15, 23, 31, 34 and 38. Another ticket sold in Grand Island contained the winning numbers and split the $90,000 jackpot.

“This was on a free ticket,” Ewan said. “I asked the clerk to check it and her mouth about hit the floor.”

Ewan and her fiancé John Jones said they’re planning on using the winnings to install some new windows and update their deck. And, if there’s a little left over, they’re going to treat themselves to a vacation.

Nebraska Pick 5 is Nebraska’s unique Lottery game: all the proceeds from Nebraska Pick 5 stay in Nebraska, and all the winning tickets are sold in Nebraska at Nebraska Lottery Lotto game retailers. The odds of winning the Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot, which starts at $50,000 and grows by $4,000 each drawing that is not won, are 1 in 501,942 while the overall odds of winning a prize in the game, which has drawings seven nights a week, are 1 in 8.

During the month of March, the Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot will increase by $10,000 each time it is not won, up from $4,000, so the jackpot will grow faster than before. See nelottery.com for details.
