Grand Island Man Wins $50,000 Playing Powerball

Nebraska PowerballMichael Kennedy of Grand Island won $50,000 playing Powerball from the Nebraska Lottery.

Kennedy purchased his winning ticket from Pump & Pantry #06 at 3355 Stolley Park Road in Grand Island. The winning ticket contained one play that matched four out of the five winning numbers (18, 39, 56, 64) with the winning Powerball number (12) from the April 25 drawing.

When he came to claim his prize, Kennedy told lottery officials that when he stopped to check his ticket he thought he had a $4 winner at first before the clerk told him he’d won $50,000.

“Things like this don’t happen,” Kennedy said. “This is really really awesome.”

Kennedy said he plans to take his daughter shopping and maybe put an addition on his house.

Powerball is a multi-state jackpot game currently offered by 44 state lotteries, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball are 1 in 913,129 while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9.
