Broken Bow morning group turns winnings into donations
Every morning at the Whiskey Barrel in Broken Bow, a group of friends meet up to slurp down a couple cups of coffee and play a few Nebraska Lottery Scratch tickets.
Instead of cashing them in for a couple of extra bucks, the Whiskey Barrel’s Coffee Crew take whatever winnings come their way and hand it over to owner Stan Gembol to make life a little better for Nebraska kids and their families.
At the beginning of January, the Coffee Crew had enough saved up to send $250 to their chosen charity of the year, the Nebraska Children’s Foundation.
Nebraska Children’s Foundation is the charity arm of Nebraska Children’s Hospital and they work to make sure every kid from babies to older teenagers can get the help and care they need. Not just that, but they also make sure parents and siblings can get transportation to the hospital and followup appointments and have a place to stay while at the hospital.
In previous years the Coffee Crew has donated to the local food bank and a charity that makes sure local kids in need have some really great toys under the Christmas tree.
While they haven’t decided on a charity for 2024’s winnings yet, they’ll have an idea soon enough.
The Whiskey Barrel is located at 128 East S East St. in Broken Bow. And if you show up early enough, you might be able to get in a few coffees and Scratch tickets with the Coffee Crew.
