The Mega Millions jackpot is too big for our signs.
The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday October 19 is big. Huge. Record-setting.
In fact, the jackpot is so big it broke our signs.
They’re set to go up to $999 million and after that, things get a little hairy.
Our big billboards just show “$999” on the display because that’s only how high it was designed to go. When it was designed, $1 billion or more just wasn’t in the cards.
We had the same problem in January of 2016 when the Powerball jackpot got up to $1.58 billion, setting a new record for the highest jackpot of any lottery game.
“Surely,” we thought, “It could never grow to such heights again.”
It did, and we’re aware that our future thinking could use some work.
Now, two and a half years later on the precipice of what could be the new biggest Lotto jackpot—if it’s not won on Friday—we’ve got the same problems with our signs.
In fact, our in-store displays don’t display anything at all for the Mega Millions jackpot.
But don’t worry, the jackpot is still there, it’s just beyond our technological capabilities at the moment. Luckily, the big screens that display Nebraska Lottery promotions have the right amount.
So pretty.
Good luck tonight, everyone

I don’t understand why Mega Millions Lottery went to 6 numbers? I think if you had less numbers and more winners more people would play. Back down to 5 numbers and you will have more winners. More millionaire winners…… thoughts?

Hi Ginger, we don’t set the rules for Mega Millions, but everyone has the same odds of winning. Each drawing also offers a chance for players to win $1 million if they match five of the white balls but don’t match the Mega Ball. On Friday’s Mega Millions drawing there were eight $1 million winners and two $2 million winners across the country. The Powerball draw on Saturday had 35 $1 million winners and eight $2 million winners.
