Two Years, Five Big Wins
Rory Rand has won big from the Nebraska Lottery so many times in the last two years, he’s run out of room on his fridge for big winner’s checks.
That’s not going to keep him from collecting them, though.
Rory, who lives in Lincoln, stopped by the Nebraska Lottery offices on June 20 to claim $1,500 he won playing the $1,500 Frenzy Scratch ticket. It wasn’t his first big win this year. Or even this past month.
In the past two years, Rory estimates he’s taken home about $44,500 worth of checks from the Nebraska Lottery, including the one he picked up on May 20 for $1,000 he won playing 10X The Money and in January of this year he won $1,000 playing Crossword Inferno.
In 2016, Rory won $10,000 playing the Lavish Luck Scratch ticket and $30,000 playing the Digging Diamonds Scratch ticket.
Even though he’s an old hand at winning at Scratch tickets, he said it’s still pretty exciting to see those big numbers.
“It surprised the heck out of me,” he said,
Rory scratched off his most recent winning ticket over at the Kwik Shop at 2811 N 48th Street in Lincoln, which he considers his lucky store. It’s also where he bought his $30,000 winner.
Rory said he’ll be using his winnings to pay the cable bill and pay off a loan and have a little left over to have some fun.
As for advice for people hoping to follow in his winning shoes, Rory said there’s not much advice he can give.
“I don’t know when I’m going to win,” he said. “Sometimes I get lucky at it. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.”
