The Day The Stars Aligned
Monday August 21, 2017 was a day of serendipity. For the first time since 1918, a solar eclipse was visible in the contiguous United States and people from across the country and even the world swarmed into places like Nebraska that were in the path of totality, which cut from the Pacific Northwest, across the Heartland and into the East Coast.
Like many people that day, Natalie Jackson of Missouri shaped her day around the solar eclipse. However, Natalie’s plans for the day were a bit different. Along with a friend, Natalie planned to visit three states along the path of totality and buy Powerball tickets in each state for the Wednesday, August 23 drawing. She thought that the rarity of the eclipse, paired with the adventure of traveling across three states would make for a rewarding experience either way.
With her plan in place, Natalie picked up a ticket in her home state of Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. After the Powerball drawing that following Wednesday, she learned that her ticket from Nebraska had made her a winner of $50,000. What a memorable day, indeed.
