Friday the 13th Proves Lucky for Petersen

Brett Petersen of Tekamah won $20,000 playing Black Ice, a $10 Scratch game from the Nebraska Lottery.

Petersen purchased his winning ticket at Buddie’s Mini Mart in Tekamah on his way to work at Cargill on Friday, November 13.

What some determine an “unlucky” day proved to be quite lucky for Petersen. In a hurry and late for work, he scratched the barcode to have the clerk reveal his prize.

“I couldn’t believe it, I came behind the counter to see for myself,” Petersen said.

He used vacation time to travel to Nebraska Lottery headquarters in Lincoln and claim his prize that same day.

“I cried happy tears,” he said.

Black Ice is a $10 Scratch game from the Nebraska Lottery that offers players the chance to win $1.5 million in cash prizes from $10 to $20,000. The odds of winning the top prize in Black Ice are 1 in 24,000, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.13.
