Hoskins Woman Wins $1 Million Powerball Prize

Nebraska PowerballOctober 9, 2012 – Barbara Maas of Hoskins recently won $1 million playing Nebraska Powerball.

Maas purchased her winning Powerball ticket at Hy-Vee, 120 East Norfolk Avenue in Norfolk. The ticket was good for ten draws and contained all five of the winning white ball numbers (2, 16, 18, 40, 42) from the September 22 drawing for $1 million.

This is the second automatic million dollar winning ticket in Nebraska since Powerball was upgraded on January 15, 2012. Previously, the amount won for matching only the first five numbers was $200,000.

While claiming her prize on October 5, Maas told Nebraska Lottery officials that she learned she had won after her daughters told her to check her tickets. “Both of our daughters called and asked, ‘Did you check your Powerball tickets?’ so I went online and saw the numbers,” said Maas. “I was excited, but my first thought was, ‘How do we cash this in?’” Other than paying some bills, Maas has no immediate plans for her prize.

The odds of winning $1 million playing Powerball are 1 in 5,153,633, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 31.85.
