Grand Island Man Wins $35,000 Playing Monopoly®

Michael CoghlanMichael Coghlan of Grand Island won $35,000 playing the $3 Scratch game Monopoly® from the Nebraska Lottery.

Coghlan purchased his winning Monopoly ticket at Pump & Pantry, 1235 Allen Drive in Grand Island. Scratching the ticket, he revealed matching numbers with a corresponding prize of $35,000.

There are three $35,000 top prizes available in Monopoly. Coghlan is the second person to claim a top prize to date.

While claiming his prize on March 2, Coghlan told Nebraska Lottery that he purchased three Monopoly tickets while stopping at Pump & Pantry. “When I scratched them off at home, all three tickets were winners: $3, $5, and $35,000,” said Coghlan. “I couldn’t believe it.” He plans to pay bills using his winnings.

Based on the classic board game of the same name, the $3 Monopoly Scratch game gives players the chance to win $1.1 million in cash prizes from $3 to $35,000. The odds of winning $35,000 playing Monopoly are 1 in 100,000, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.67.
