Fairbury Man Wins $5,001 Playing Mega Millions

Douglas TracyDouglas Tracy of Fairbury won a total of $5,001 playing Mega Millions from the Nebraska Lottery.

More than 16,000 Nebraska Lottery players won prizes in the Friday, August 1 drawings.  Tracy purchased his winning Mega Millions ticket at Ray’s Apple Market, 1415 K Street in Fairbury. The quick pick ticket contained five plays. One play contained four of the five winning white ball numbers (13, 29, 34, 37, 72) and the Mega Ball number (6) for a corresponding prize of $5,000.

A second play on the ticket matched the Mega Ball number for $1, making Tracy’s total prize $5,001.

Seventeen Nebraska Lottery players have won the $5,000 Mega Millions prize since the game was changed in October 2013.

While claiming his prize on August 7, Tracy told Nebraska Lottery officials that he learned he had won after checking the winning numbers in the Lincoln Journal Star. “I thought I only had three numbers, but when I scanned it at the store I found out I’d matched more than that,” said Tracy. He said he was “shocked” to win, and plans on purchasing a riding lawn mower using his winnings.

The odds of winning $5,000 playing Mega Millions are 1 in 739,688, and the odds of winning $1 are 1 in 21. The overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 14.7.
