$58,000 Nebraska Pick 5 Prize for Omaha Man

August 4, 2008 – Steve Murcek of Omaha recently won $58,000 playing Nebraska Pick 5 from the Nebraska Lottery.

Murcek is a regular Nebraska Lottery player who purchases Nebraska Pick 5 tickets every week. He purchased a five-play quick pick ticket for the July 28 drawing at Kabredlo’s, 5444 Center Street in Omaha. One play on the ticket contained all five of the winning numbers (9, 11, 17, 21, 28) from the July 28 drawing for the $58,000 jackpot.

One hundred and forty-three Nebraska Lottery players have won the Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot to date.

Murcek wasted no time in claiming his prize, arriving at Nebraska Lottery headquarters on July 30. He told Nebraska Lottery officials that his first reaction was “disbelief” after he checked his ticket and learned he had won the $58,000 jackpot. “You never think it’s going to happen,” said Murcek. He plans to pay bills using his winnings.

Nebraska Pick 5 is a unique Nebraska Lottery game: all the proceeds from Nebraska Pick 5 stay in Nebraska, and all the winning tickets are sold in Nebraska at Nebraska Lottery Lotto game retailers. The odds of winning the Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot, which starts at $50,000 and grows by $4,000 each time it is not won, are 1 in 501,942 while the overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 8.
